me and you, ze company

today, is my first day back at work after a break.
and it's to a new office location.

since i've been with this company,
we've moved 3 times.
expanded, more describes it.

when i joined the company, there were only 17 of us.
the company grew and moved to a larger office space in a different location.
it grew again so an additional office floor was acquired.
it grew yet again,
and we're now where we are.

this current location, mid valley city,
is by far the one i like best.
not in the heart of the city which makes traffic less hectic.
adjoined to one of the biggest malls in kl,
which makes "de-stressing" activities absolutely FUN.

i actually look forward to my office hours.
now.
soon,
it will pass. :)

and you'll find me saying,
i'm working.
from home.

exodus

yesterday, the impact of leaving my current project finally hit home.
contrary to everyone's thoughts, i feel sad.
i enjoyed being in the project, but more importantly working with my teammates.
the love-hate relationship is just incredible.

i vacated my working table-with-a-view for another to take over.
and given a room meant for two, view-less.
granted i have more privacy and good company, but it's different.
technically, i am still with the project for two days in a week and will work with my teammates.
but end april, it will all be over.

like all good things, they end.
planned sometimes, unexpectedly most times.
coping and moving forward is tough.
adjustments to be made, physically, mentally and even emotionally.

the responsibility and expectations of my other day job is already mounting.
soon, i will be completely immersed in it.
i may even grow to like it.
the new team is dynamic and i can already see the element of fun present.

but deep down, i will miss my current team.
mismatched personalities. individuals. friends. :)

(on a lighter note, niza will be in the new team. omg! lol)

away

ok. i have been kept away from my usual stuff for a few days now.
what else is new.
that's what happens when work comes a-calling.
and noticed that i've missed lots of stuff! plenty.
and missed my friends and families whom i only communicate with on the net.

piles of it!

It's a crazy work day today.
Niza is going on leave for 3 days next week.
And she requires 5 (count that, FIVE) people to cover her work for 3 (count that too, THREE) days! Guess who gets the major bulk of it? The way I look at it, Niza is just passionately anal about her work, in a good way. Though still anal. :)

And then there's Nik.
Ever so sweet to his counterpart on the other side of the world.
When asked how the weather was on this side, he just had to say, "...it's gloomy and cloudy...you have to come over as you bring the sunshine with you...!"

*puke-ess maximus*

All in all, it was actually a fun day of work. Because I had a gala time being sarcastic to everyone. :)

By the way, Adesh made me write this. I'm such a push-over. ;)

Routine

And this is what my colleagues do on a normal basis. Daily.
I, on the other hand, work.

my team

Let me introduce the guys I work with.

@ River Thames + Big Ben
Left to right: Adesh, Niza, Karen, Me.

Karen, my team lead. She is probably the nicest team lead you can get but don't be fooled by that. She keeps a whip on her all the time. She does need to learn to be bitchy though. She fails at it. Really. Karen eats more malay food than the rest of us in the team. She's a malay in chinese skin (foodwise).

@ Heathrow station...just arrived!
Niza in foreground, Nik in back.

Niza, the-most-passionate-once-upon-a-time-called-Miss-Nazi-who-thrives-on-stress-and-is-such-a-stickler-for-rules-and-doing-things-the-right-way-and-the-hard-way-and-if-you-don't-do-your-work-she'll-talk-you-to-death. She sits right behind me. We argue all the time but she is the best person to have around if you don't know anything (and I usually am the one who doesn't know anything). Niza loves rojak buah.

adesh zaini..
Adesh (her pet name) USED TO BE the most quiet one among us but no more. She whips back with comeback lines like nobody's business and I am usually at the end of it. I guess I trained her well in that respect. She provides music for our room, into photography and loves rabbits (no, she's not the owner of the rabbit that died in my last blog entry). She has four rabbits that she fusses about daily. Adesh has really specific stuff that she likes and eats. And I have no idea what they are.

Nik Shamsul
This is Nik. He is my best bud at work and is always there to hear my rant and raves. Nik is such a diplomat. He comments with carefully placed words. If I have evil plans, I will usually run it by him first and he would talk me out of it. Nik has no specific food requirements and enjoys everything. Like me.

So there you have it. The goons I work with in this project.
My colleagues, my friends.

Note: Photos courtesy of Adesh and Donut. Thanks!

A messy worktable

My worktable at this hour, reflects what goes on in my head at this time. Urgh!

Dreadful Monday

It was. Absolutely no drive to work.
Completely drained just listing down what MUST be delivered for the week.
There must be more to this "work" other than completing tasks.
I should be doing what I want to do. Not what I have to do.
Might this be a time to change?
The heart is not willing to fall in love with what I'm doing now.
It can't. It's seeking a new lover.

Sigh.

As if my prayers were answered, I get an email from the office hinting of a way out.
We'll see if Wednesday is a day of Woe or a day that I Win.
We'll see...

State of being in a typical working day in 2008

I published this on my bebo.com blog sometime in 2008.

Thankful;
God has given me a little more time to repent and beg for forgiveness and blessings for the hereafter.

Lazy;
Isn't 3 sit-ups enough...? I'll do 2 more tomorrow. Penat lah.

Hopeful;
To see my kids going off to school.

Stressed;
Traffic jam at such early hours of the day.

Relieved;
Finally arriving in the office. I need to pee...

Competitive;
Darn those pull tabs, scratch & win, my dragon did it again!

Serious;
Finally settling down to work.

Emotionless;
Trying to get as much work done for the day.

Intermittent frustration;
It's work! What did you expect? :)

Distracted;
Yes wife, I love you too. Now I have to go back to work. And no, don't think I will be back for dinner on time. Don't wait up. *message sent*

Peckish;
When did I have my last meal?

Fat;
I overdid it with lunch. Burp!

Professional;
"Tunku Farahat. Northgate Arinso. And you are...?"

Overdrive;
Work, work, work. Oh shut up! I've got enough to do for now. Give it to someone else. Now go away!

Tired;
Driving through the traffic jam for the umpteenth time today...

Happy;
To be home and to have my wife cook up something for me and the kids for dinner.

Fondness;
When my kids starts babbling about the experiences they went through for the day.

Strict (mak tiri like);
"So, have you finished your homework? I don't think so...! You know the drill. NO TV!"

Subservient;
During prayers throughout the day...

Pleasure;
Writing a letter or scribbling with a fountain pen. And surfing the net...

Bliss;
Being in bed with my wife and kids. Good night. Tomorrow is another day, insyallah.

Let's hope 2009 is better.
